Shopping is the American national pastime. We are constantly told that buying the latest gadget or trinket will bring us happiness, pleasure, and even therapy. They often fail to mention that it can also bring loads of credit card debt, long working hours, clutter, and massive stress. Here are some tips to get you to curb your spending.
1. Evaluate why you shop. Emotional issues, low self esteem, anxiety, boredom, fear, and even competition, are some reasons that can drive us to shop. Figure out why you shop and try to fix the underlying issue first.
2. Get a new hobby or pastime. If you find yourself at the mall or browsing online simply because you have nothing else to do, find something else to do! Take up the many things on your to do list that you never seem to have time to do. If you have time to shop, you have time to workout, learn to cook, learn a new language, or anything else you have been putting off. And do that instead of shopping!
